AWARD-WINNING SONGWRITER RELEASES HIS FIRST ALL-BLUES ALBUM, HAPPY TRAVELING

Blues music isn't often described as uplifting, upbeat fun combined with thought-provoking lyrics, but thats exactly what solo artist, Jeff Saxon, serves up on his new album, Happy Traveling.  The album's perky and catchy opener, Get It While You Got It,” kicks things off emphatically but light-heartedly while showcasing Saxon's soulful and captivating vocals and cool and crafty lyric writing.  And while there's no shortfall of rollicking upbeat tracks along these lines in this 13 song collection, there's also some standout slow and mid-tempo bare-bones acoustic numbers, too.  Most notable are the fingerpicked uke and vocal track, "Someone Or Somethin'," and the empowering guitar and vocal cut, I Don't Fall Easy.”  These showcase Saxon's skills on both stringed instruments and highlight his songwriting skills and earthy voice.  They were self-recorded by Saxon, whereas the rest of the tracks were recorded via file sharing with musicians from all over the U.S. and the world; a number of which hail from Louisiana and therefore provide an authentic New Orleans vibe.  And speaking of the internet, one of the songs, The Oops I Wrote The Wrong Thing Blues,”  humorously and cleverly frames the potential perils of taking strong vitriolic stances on social media.  Saxons wry observations, paired with the low-keyed Dixieland-ish music (think: Randy Newman meets Woody Allen movie soundtrack; replete with a clarinet solo) make this a memorable cut and worthy of its selection as a finalist in the 2025 UK Songwriting Contest.

While he says he revered icons like B.B. King and Freddie King early on in his “love affair with the blues,” Saxon's brand of blues often integrates elements of the R&B, Latin, jazz, and American songbook standards that he was exposed to early on and thereafter.

The Washington-state-based Saxon has won a number of songwriting, composing, and singer-songwriter awards for his music and music videos over the years, including Best Music Video honors at 3 international film festivals.  ###
