Jeff Saxon

Singer/songwriter/guitarist/ukulele player Jeff Saxon is known for his meaningful, expertly-crafted and soulfully-delivered songs with jazz, blues, Latin and old-school R&B leanings.  An album reviewer at Minor 7th proclaimed Saxon has "a voice that is utterly disarming" and U.S. national news syndicate, patch.com, described Saxon as a "consummate songwriter."

Many other people in the music and film world evidently agree, as Saxon's compositions and music videos have earned him over 50 awards from various national and international songwriting contests and film festivals including the 2014 New Hope Film Festival (where he won Best Music Video) and the 2012 World Music And Independent Film Festival in Washington, D.C., where he emerged with the Best Rock Music Video trophy.  Jeff was also a multiple category Finalist in the 2015 and 2017 UK Songwriting Contest and a Finalist in the 2011 Acoustic Blues Competition at the Telluride Blues Festival( Colorado).  Saxon also has a number of song placements in film and TV and video games.

In late June 2018, Jeff released his debut uke-driven album, appropriately titled, The Ukulele Project.  Much like Jeff's previous works, this collection spans the stylistic gamut; including pop, R&B, jazz, reggae, bossa nova, folk, Americana and more.  One of the acoustic tracks from the CD, "A Ukulele's All I Need", has a corresponding music video (viewable on YouTube) which extols the many virtues of the instrument and the strong connection that Saxon has forged with it in the comparatively short 5 years he's played it.

Before making the move to Washington state in 2018, Jeff lived and performed in Los Angeles for many years, where he worked in the studio or shared stages with well-known Grammy-nominated jazz and pop artists such as Dave Koz, Little Richard, John Daversa, Norman Brown, and the jazz/fusion group, Hiroshima.

Jeff describes his critically-acclaimed eclectic 2013 recording, Blujanova, as a merging of blues, jazz and bossa nova.  This hybrid style, really shines with Jeff's emotive vocals and innovative arrangements of tunes seemingly devoid of jazz or Brazilian influences, such as "Hound Dog","Riders On The Storm" and "I Got You (I Feel Good)".  These out-of-the-box, musically-rich re-workings of timeless rock and blues classics along with 7 first-rate Saxon originals make    a powerful musical statement. which Jazz Weekly described as "...a smart and intelligent recording..." and the UK's  Blues Matters! praised as "very clever....something with a real    twist..." (Relevant Records # RR70713).

Simultaneous to his music-making pursuits, Jeff is teaching ukulele, songwriting, and guitar classes at Tacoma Community College, Pierce College and South Puget Sound Community College and continues to give private guitar, songwriting and ukulele instruction to kids and adults of all ages, both independently and thru California-based company, Takelessons.

"The Ukulele Project" and Jeff's previous CD’s, "Blujanova", “Truthteller", The  Spin” and “Me, Myself, and I” (all on Relevant Records) are available at CDBaby, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon, etc.
